What to Put in a Memorial Garden: Simple, Meaningful Ideas That Bring Comfort
Share
I love this time of year. The warmer days of spring are finally starting to show up… well, when Mother Nature decides to cooperate. 😊
Especially here in the Northeast, we start getting back outside - cleaning up our yards, tending to our gardens, and getting everything ready for those relaxing outdoor moments we’ve been missing all winter.
And in those quiet moments, we start thinking about the people and pets we love and miss.
Why Memorial Gardens Feel So Meaningful
It doesn’t have to be anything big or elaborate. It can be as simple as a small flower pot with a wind spinner or a flag - just something that feels right to you.
I always find myself creating little spaces around the yard this time of year. Some are more noticeable, but others…. you might not even realize they’re there.
And that’s okay.
If you’re like me, some of those spaces are just for you. You know where they are—and that’s what makes them special. They don’t have to be seen by anyone else to mean something.
And maybe you have one spot that is a little more visible. A place others might notice too… and in its own quiet way, it can bring a little remembrance to them as well.
We just brought in some wind chimes for pets too, and I absolutely love them.
It’s really just about having a space where you can sit with your coffee in the morning, unwind in the evening, or pause for a few minutes during the day.
You look over, take a breath…. and there’s something there that helps you feel close to them again. That’s what makes a memorial garden feel so special.
Simple Ideas You Can Add to a Memorial Space
If you’re not sure where to start, it can help to begin with just one or two small pieces that feel meaningful to you. You can always add to it later on.
Some people like to add things that move or catch your attention, like wind spinners or chimes. Others prefer something simple, like a small plant, a figurine, or something that reminds them of a special memory.
There’s no right or wrong way to do this. It doesn’t have to be perfect - it just has to feel right to you.
Another idea I’ve really come to love is a bird feeder with a camera.
I actually have one myself - (okay, I have 2!!), and it’s become one of my favorite things to check throughout the day. You get to see all kinds of birds up close up and when a cardinal shows up, it just feels a little extra special. It’s such a simple addition, but it can bring quiet moments of comfort in a way that’s hard to explain.
Sometimes it helps to see a few simple ideas to get started. I’ve come across a few pieces that I thought were really nice and could work beautifully in a small memorial space - things like solar lights, small statues, or garden stakes…. nothing that will break the bank.

I’ve also included a few items from our website below that I think fit really nicely in a space like this:

Memorial Wind Spinners ➡️ Pet Memorial Wind Chime ➡️ Memorial Garden Flags
I’ll be sharing more on this soon, including different ways to create a memorial garden that feels personal and meaningful. Nothing fancy, just something that feels right.
If you’d like to be notified when that blog is up, you can join my email list below under “Stay Connected,” and I’ll send it your way when it’s ready.
At the end of the day, it’s not really about the garden itself. It’s about having a space that feels like them… in a way that brings you a little comfort. Have you created your own little outdoor memorial space? If so, I’d love to hear what you’ve added, feel free to share in the comments.
